The new temporarily exhibition of the Military Musuem would like to present the key events of the post -WWI period in Hungary with the help of original and replica posters, text announcements, badges and uniforms.
The placards and posters which appeared between October 1918 and November 1921 bring back the streetview of the mentioned period, shows the events which influenced the lives of the people and we can see the different political forces’s propaganda. The manifold topics and styles of the posters shows the art of the well-knowned or unknowned artists. The placards was displayed in chronological order and we can find some very famous amongst them but there are a few less known pieces also.
The subject of the placards are also very diversified: protests against the so-called peace treaty of Trianon - when the 2/3 of Hungary’s territory were removed-, propaganda posters with the messages of different political parties or call to arms proclamations in order to save the motherland.
Many of the placards ordered by the leadership of Hungarian Communists whom lead the country for almost half a year between the spring of 1919 till the midst of summer. Then when their state is collapsed the Romanian troops occupied the country and the new regime started to emerging, they also wanted to tell messages to the people and the placards were the easiest and the most suitable way to reach the masses.
