The foundations of the Military Archaeological Collection were laid in 2009 and then the Collection was formally integrated into the collection system of the Museum in 2013. The Collection has a broad chronology framework, since it comprises numerous objects from the period starting from the time of the prehistoric age to modern age (remains of weapons, equipment, clothing and wrecks). The objects that make up a heterogeneous collection originate mainly from donations, purchases, exchanges that took place in the second half of the 20th century, from recent collection interchanges and field research activities.
The Collection has a number of special memorabilia, for example, relics that arrived to the Museum during the 1990s such as a group of findings from a Bronze Age warrior’s grave and it also possesses the earliest “tank” remains in Hungary, the remains of the armour and chassis of a FIAT 3000/B tank found at the Várpalota military exercise ground in 2010.
